Our Story

Red Brolly Preschool is the inspired venture of Amy Marsan, Owner and Director. With over 20 years of experience in Early Childhood Education, Amy has devoted her career to nurturing children and supporting families as a Lead Preschool Teacher.

When the school where she had spent her entire career decided to close its doors, Amy knew she couldn’t let go of her mission to inspire and guide young learners and their families. With the support of her husband and co-owner, Kyle Marsan, Amy founded Red Brolly Preschool—a place where the love, dedication, and care that defined her teaching are embedded in every aspect of the school.

Red Brolly Preschool draws from several renowned early education theories. Inspired by the Montessori method, the school fosters independence, self-confidence, and resilience. It also embraces the Reggio Emilia approach, creating a mixed-age classroom where 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds learn from one another. Additionally, Vygotsky’s Social Development Theory is channeled, with emphasis on social interaction, encouraging both peer-to-peer and adult-child engagement. With a fresh perspective and a commitment to quality, Amy brings years of invaluable insights gained from collaborating with exceptional educators, families, and students.

In addition to her extensive teaching experience, Amy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Interdisciplinary Studies from Fitchburg State University. She is a certified Lead Teacher, holds EEC Director I & Director II Certifications, and has earned a Certificate in Children’s Behavior and Trauma in Early Childhood Education. Amy is also certified in First Aid and CPR, as well as Youth Mental Health First Aid.

What exactly is a “brolly”? It’s a playful term for an umbrella, commonly used in Britain and Australia. The inspiration for the name came to Amy in a dream, where rain symbolized the journey of early childhood—sometimes unpredictable, but always brimming with possibilities! From that dream, the idea of the “red brolly” took shape, representing both confidence and wonder. It reflects the joy of learning cause and effect, building resilience, and embracing life’s challenges with a sense of playfulness—like dancing in the rain. Our goal is to equip preschoolers and their families with a red brolly—symbolizing the tools we all need to navigate life’s ups and downs (big & small) with confidence and joy.
